PRIVACY
Gridly Privacy Policy
Effective date: 6 November 2026
Gridly is a file manager that runs entirely on your Mac. This policy explains what Gridly does with information, in plain language.
The short version
- Gridly does not collect, sell or share your personal information.
- There are no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking or third-party SDKs.
- Your files, folder lists, layouts and settings stay on your Mac.
- If you send feedback, it goes from your own email app, and only when you press Send.
Who we are
Gridly is published by the developer named on its App Store page (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at admin@ozuse.com.au.
Information Gridly does not collect
Gridly has no server and no account system. It does not send us your files, file names, folder paths, search terms, usage statistics, crash reports, device identifiers or location. Gridly does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Information stored only on your Mac
To work as a file manager, Gridly reads the names and metadata of files in folders you browse, and performs the file operations you request. It saves the following on your Mac so your workspace is there next time. None of it is sent to us.
- Workspace and settings: open folders, named workspaces, tile layouts, appearance and theme choices, colour labels and visibility preferences. In the App Store edition these are kept in Gridly’s sandbox container.
- Folder permissions: when you choose a folder in the macOS folder picker, Gridly stores a permission bookmark so it can open that folder again. In the App Store edition, Gridly can only open folders you have allowed, plus locations macOS makes available to every app, such as Applications.
- Jump history: if “Remember visited folders” is on, the folders you visit are ranked for Jump (⌘J). You can clear this in Settings → General.
- File Shelf and Saved Layouts: the File Shelf holds references to files you add; it does not copy their contents. When you export a layout, the file you save contains folder paths and tile settings, not file contents or permissions. Importing a layout grants no new access.
- History and recovery: recent file actions you requested, with source and destination paths, file identities, progress checkpoints and error details, so Undo and recovery work after a restart. Completed history is limited to about 100 actions.
- Auto Sort and Sorting Rules: these read file names and metadata only when you press their buttons, and keep a private undo journal of moved files on your Mac. File contents are never sent to an AI service or server, and nothing runs on a schedule.
- Folder comparison: when you ask Gridly to verify file contents, it calculates SHA-256 hashes locally. Hashes and results stay in memory and are not saved or uploaded.
Features that use other services
Some features hand your request to macOS or to a destination you choose. Gridly does not add its own data collection to these.
- Quick Look and opening files use Apple’s services and the apps you choose, under their own privacy settings.
- Recents, tags and Mac-wide search use your Mac’s local Spotlight index.
- AirDrop sends the files you select to the recipient you choose.
- Printing sends documents to the printer you choose. Saving an ordered PDF writes only to the location you pick.
- Network discovers and connects to file servers on your local network only when you open it.
- Updates are delivered by the Mac App Store under Apple’s privacy policy and your App Store settings.
Feedback and support
When you choose Help → Send Feedback, Gridly writes a draft email in your default email app. The draft contains the message you type and, if “Include app and Mac details” is ticked, Gridly’s version and build number, your macOS version and whether your Mac uses Apple silicon or Intel. You can read and change everything before sending. Nothing is sent until you press Send in your email app.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply, fix problems and improve Gridly. We do not sell it, share it or use it for marketing, and we delete support emails when they are no longer needed to help you, or sooner if you ask. Your email provider handles delivery under its own privacy policy.
Children
Gridly is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Your choices
- To remove Gridly’s saved data, quit Gridly and delete its folder in ~/Library/Containers, or simply delete the app. This does not affect any of your own files.
- To clear only your Jump history, use Settings → General → Clear History.
- To ask about, or delete, any email you have sent us, contact admin@ozuse.com.au.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and describe significant changes in the app’s release notes.
